Tracy L. Steedman Designated as a LEED AP by the U.S. Green Building Council

Niles Barton is pleased to announce that Tracy L. Steedman, an associate in the firm’s construction practice, is now designated as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP™) by the U.S. Green Building Council. Ms. Steedman demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building practices and principles and the LEED Rating System by achieving this accreditation.

The LEED Green Building Rating System is a nationally accepted rating and certification system for the design, construction, and operation of high-performance green buildings. Effective July 2009, all state-funded construction and major renovation projects of 7,500 square feet or greater will need to achieve the LEED Silver standard (or equivalent), according to the High Performance Buildings Act. The Act also requires Maryland public schools using state funds to earn LEED Silver certification.

According to the Green Building Certification Institute’s LEED Accredited Professional Directory, Ms. Steedman is the seventh attorney to achieve this status in Baltimore and the eighteenth in the state of Maryland. As a LEED AP, Ms. Steedman can advise clients on the many green building requirements and incentives while assisting them through the LEED certification process.

Ms. Steedman is a construction attorney practicing in the firm’s litigation department. She represents institutional owners, general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, design professionals, and municipalities in all areas of construction law and civil litigation, including complex commercial construction disputes. She has litigated cases at the trial and appellate levels in both state and federal courts. Ms. Steedman received her B.A. from Towson University and her J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law.
